From Tom and his 100+ million friends on MySpace to Kristopher Tate broadcasting daily videos to the Zooomr faithful during the Mark III launch crisis, a side effect of social media has been the rise of the iconic founder. While most of us would be hard pressed to name the CEOs of the world’s biggest companies like Exxon Mobil or AT&T, names like Kevin Rose and Chad Hurley are nearly synonymous with the Web 2.0 companies they founded. Twenty-somethings and even a few teenagers are in charge of many of today’s top emerging web companies, and the trend will only continue as the barriers to creating a successful venture reach an all-time low.
